Is the holiday season really coming up so soon? I feel like just yesterday I was watching the kids splash around in the pool and taking them to the park for a walk in the stroller! Well, no matter if we like it or not the winter season is coming on fast and it will be time soon for starting holiday wish lists for the kids.
I’m lucky that my family always asks me what toys and clothing my kids want for the holidays so its up to me to make eco friendly choices and support companies that carry made in the usa items. Now a days its not so hard to find websites that carry european or usa made toys that are not from china, but it is difficult sometimes to find any that are not outrageously expensive. If money isnt an issue for you then great…go nuts. But I look at a $100 wooden truck or a $75 organic cotton doll and I feel a little queezy. I want to support healthy eco friendly toys and clothing but this year especially with my husband being laid off work we are really needing to tighten up our christmas budget. Of course you have to remember that if a toy is made in the usa that means that workers are being paid at least minimum wage and hopefully have some benefits so you are going to pay a little more than the made in china version. But I think you can find what you want at a reasonable price with a little research on your part.
Below I have a few website that have reasonable priced toys and items that are not made in china. For some of them they also carry expensive furniture and other items so take a moment to look through the different items and I promise there are some reasonable priced things on the site. I hope if you have children to buy for this holiday season you check out some of these sites and support items made in the usa whenever possible.
1.Little Tikes http://www.littletikes.com/
Follow the link and click on the tab at the top right of the page that says MADE IN THE USA. Many reasonable priced ride on toys and furniture.
2.Amerikids http://www.amerikid.com/
Great selection of stuffed animals and toy trucks all under $20. They also personalize many products such as lunch boxes and clocks. Free shipping on orders over $50.
3. Step 2 http://www.step2.com/index.cfm
I like step 2 toys because they are always very durable and each item is clearly labeled as to where its made and if any parts are made in a different country than the rest of it. They have many made in the usa items but you have to look through the site. Many reasonable priced outdoor toys and furniture.
4. Willow Tree http://www.willowtreetoys.com/
Some things on the site are a little pricey but take a look because there are some deals hidden within! If you click on search by price and click on items under $20 there are a few pages of items. I like the make your own doll kit and decorate your own race car kit for older kids.
5. Earth Wear http://earth-wear.com/
This site definitly wont win any awards for style or ease of use but they do have the cheapest organic baby onsies I have found so far at $8. Since these are the closest to babies skin it makes sense to stock up on these and then you can always layer other “non-organic” items on top of them.
6. SOS from Texas http://www.sosfromtexas.com/
Great site for organic tee shirts for the whole family. Just plain and simple but good prices!
Hope this helps ease your holiday shopping angst!
